Oracle Cloud Migration
Cloud Enablement
Vodafone Ireland launched a multi-year IT modernisation, migrating core systems to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). In partnership with SevTech, Vodafone moved its billing, CRM, and middleware systems to a dedicated Oracle Cloud@Customer solution, upgrading software and adopting serverless OCI tech to boost performance, scalability, and compliance.
Overview
Vodafone Ireland embarked on a large-scale, multi-year initiative to modernise its IT infrastructure, migrating core systems to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
Partnering with SevTech, Vodafone transitioned its billing, CRM, and Middleware systems to a Vodafone-hosted Oracle Dedicated Region Cloud@Customer (DRCC) solution. The project included upgrading Oracle software and integrating OCI’s serverless technologies to enhance performance, scalability, and automation while ensuring long-term security and compliance.
Challenge
Vodafone faced several IT challenges, including outdated infrastructure, scalability limitations, and operational complexity. Managing disconnected systems increased costs and inefficiencies, while disaster recovery lacked full cloud automation.
Additionally, upgrading Oracle software required careful planning to maintain compatibility and minimize service disruptions. Vodafone needed a future-proof solution to ensure seamless operations, regulatory compliance, and improved customer service while reducing maintenance costs and risks associated with legacy systems.
Results
50% Reduction in Infrastructure Costs: Optimised OCI usage and eliminated legacy maintenance expenses.
Enhanced Scalability & Performance: OCI’s cloud-native environment improved system responsiveness and resource allocation.
Automated Disaster Recovery: Faster recovery times with OCI-native DR automation.
Enhanced Security & Compliance: Upgraded Oracle stack ensured compliance with industry standards and Vodafone’s security policies.
Future-Ready IT Environment: The migration positioned Vodafone Ireland for continued innovation and growth.
Solution
SevTech developed a phased migration plan, ensuring minimal downtime and compliance with Vodafone’s security policies. Core systems were migrated to OCI, with high-availability architecture and failover mechanisms.
The Oracle stack was upgraded to the latest versions, and OCI’s serverless technologies, including OCI Functions and Autonomous Database, were leveraged for automation. Infrastructure as code (IaC) deployment using Terraform streamlined resource management, while automated disaster recovery enhanced resilience.
